Station # 5... "Immortal Image" by: Fred Miles Located at the corner of Church Street and Patton Ave. Reminiscent of Asheville's Victorian past, the Drhumor Building was built in 1895 by William J. Cocke and family. Fred Miles, a Biltmore House Sculptor, carved the limestone frieze. Immortalized in stone on the east side is the bearded face of Cyrus T.C. Deake, local florist who watched Miles as he worked. This is the site where Dr. John Dickson's private girl's school was located and where Elizabeth Blackwell began her studies of medicine in 1845. |
The plaque and artwork donated by the law firm McGuire, Wood and Bissett P.A.
