| UNCA Art Professor Tucker Cooke, with the help of local sculptors Tekla and Dan Howachyn of Black Mountain Ironworks, designed the wrought iron sculpture at Station # 14
depicting stylized women shoppers from the heyday of Haywood Street, the 1920s through 1950s. The three frenzied ladies and their little dog, Buttons, are on a mission to visit the shops they would have frequented in those decades. Today the street enjoys an eclectic mix of retail and residential development, part of the very successful downtown revitalization efforts that began in the 1980s. |
