Station # 10... "Grove's Vision" An etched-glass rendering of the Grove Arcade tower shows the building as Edwin W. Grove envisioned it. He began constructing the arcade in 1926 as an indoor shopping mall, the heart of a new city center. Grove’s death and the Great Depression caused the tower to be built lower than he foresaw. An Asheville community effort is restoring the arcade so it is again an indoor mall, with housing and offices in the upper stories. |
